WILLIAM CAREY UNIVERSITY UPSILON THETA CHAPTER
In August 2002, at a meeting of the full faculty from all three campuses of William Carey College School of Nursing, a proposal was presented and approved to investigate the possibility of establishing a chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing.
In November, 2002, the Intent to Become a Chapter with proposed timelines was submitted to Sigma Theta Tau International.
Fifty-three nursing students and nurses were granted charter membership in the Joseph and Nancy Fail School of Nursing Honor Society at William Carey College at the first Induction Ceremony held on July 12, 2003. The first Board of Directors was also selected at this time.
Inductions were held in 2004 and 2005, including students from all campuses and all programs, as well as community leaders. Application for charter status was submitted in 2006.
Charter status was granted in December 2006, and the chartering ceremony was held on July 21, 2007. Dr. Mary W. Stewart, founding president, and Ms. Deborah Chatham, first chapter president, represented Upsilon Theta (chapter #462) at the STTI Biennial Convention in Indianapolis in 2007.
